Cookie policy

The cookies and device storage we use, what each one does and how long it lasts.

What cookies and device storage are

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Websites can also keep data in your browser’s local storage and, for installable apps like ours, an offline cache. We use all three only for the purposes below.

Essential cookies

Set by us and needed for the service to work, so they can’t be switched off in the app.

NameWhat it doesHow long
knowyourcgpa_authKeeps you signed in. Can't be read by page scripts.30 days, or until you sign out
kyc_google_stateProtects Google sign-in from forged requests, and notes whether you agreed to the terms first.10 minutes
kyc_guest_profileCarries profile details you entered before signing in with Google.10 minutes

Storage on your device

This data stays in your browser on your device; we don’t read it unless it syncs to your account.

NameWhat it does
cgpa_profile, cgpa_semestersYour COOU calculator profile and results, so they load instantly and work offline.
general_cgpa_*Your general calculator results, scale and levels, for offline use.
cgpa_outbox, general_cgpa_unsyncedChanges made offline, waiting to sync to your account.
kyc_cookie_consentRemembers your choice on the cookie notice.
kyc_terms_checkedRemembers, until you close the tab, that you've already agreed to the current terms, so we don't check on every page.
kyc_install_dismissed_atRemembers if you closed the “install the app” prompt.
Service worker cacheSaved copies of app pages and your last results, so the app opens offline. Cleared when you sign out.

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)

The free service is supported by ads from Google AdSense. Google, as an independent company, sets and reads these cookies to show and measure ads. The main ones are below; Google may use others, listed in Google’s cookie policy.

NameSet onWhat it doesHow long
__gads, __gpikycgpa.com (set by Google AdSense)Lets Google show ads, limit how often you see each one and measure them.Up to 13 months

Other third parties

When you choose Sign in with Google, Google sets its own cookies on its sign-in pages. Our fonts are served with the website, so they don’t involve third-party requests.

Your choices

  • Accept: essential cookies, plus Google’s advertising cookies for personalised ads based on your interests.
  • Essential only: we ask Google for non-personalised ads only, chosen from the page you’re on and your general location. Google may still use cookies to limit how often you see an ad, for reporting and to prevent fraud.

You can change your choice here at any time:

You can also turn off personalised ads from Google everywhere at My Ad Center, or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. Deleting them signs you out, and removes any results that were saved only on this device and not yet synced.
